I received the novel The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern for Christmas. It's not exactly a mystery novel, and normally I like seemingly magical acts to have logical explanations, but I can't seem to put this book down.
The night circus of the title begins at nightfall and ends at dawn. The circus takes place underneath a spectacular clock, and all the mysterious performers are costumed exclusively in black and white.
Below are four of my photos that remind me of the magic of the book.

Super-cool photos, Gigi! So atmospheric. I haven't read The Night Circus yet (it's on my TBR pile), but I think it would be great fun to do this in reverse and construct a narrative from your photos here. They have precisely the kind of atmosphere I go gaga over!
ReplyDeleteThe first one reminds me of Shakespeare somehow--I guess I'm picturing Puck or Ariel dancing in the forest.
Thanks for sharing them!
Thanks, Nancy! I'm such a visual thinker that I often can't remember if I read a passage in a book or saw it in a movie, since I "see" things so clearly if an author has made the scene evocative. So my mystery writing and mysterious photography is very much linked to me.
ReplyDeleteMy brother passed the Night Circus along to me after he finished the book. I loved it so much I bought 3 copies to give as Christmas presents. It's not a mystery in the true sense of the genre, but the imagery evoked by the writing is mysterious and wonderful. A great book. And I love your pix,
ReplyDeleteTiger, I have a feeling I'll be buying the book for gifts in the future as well. I'm definitely going to keep this copy for myself :)
